Last Sunday we went on a hike called "Ruta de Las Xanas." I didn't know how to pronounce it until Beatriz said it probably 10 times. It's Asturiano for "queen" and is pronounced like shaw-nuhs. (P.S. Asturiano is an unofficial language, also known as Bable, spoken in the principality of Asturias. Many people here want it to become an official language so kids learn it in school.) Anyway, the hike was beautiful. We took a short bus ride and had a couple hours to hike.
The hike was along a mountain and the trail was carved into the rock. There were even some ropes attached just in case you felt like you needed to hold on to them for safety.
After going along the mountain, we came across the most picturesque stream. We took a bocadillo break and headed out.
We ended up in another pueblo and finished the rest of our bocadillos and walked into "town." When I say town I mean a group of like 10 buildings. But it was so cute and we sat down and had a glass of sidra. So relaxing.
We got back fairly early from our hike so that we could study for our midterm. (Ew.)
The rest of this week hasn't really been that exciting. I took my test. Went shopping. It's hilarious because when we go to the mall, we always see shirts in English. Many times they don't make sense or the grammar is weird or they are just the randomest words. I have some examples:
Even in the Casa de las Lenguas, where many people speak English, they have grammatical mistakes:
So that's about all for this week. I got to Skype a lot of people so that was great. I don't have class on Friday so Jenna, Diana, Hope, and I are doing a quick weekend getaway to a beach city. It should be nice! On Sunday we are going on another hike with our class: Ruta de Cares. It is supposed to be beautiful and great weather so I'm looking forward to it. I miss all of you!
